Birmingham based rapper Thai Mason releases glowing new single ‘Big Spirit‘, a lofty anthem of self-affirmation and unwavering resolve.
‘Yeah I got a real big spirit, real big soul!‘ proclaims Thai Mason on the song’s soaring chorus, fortified by the sound of church organs, screwed up choir vocals and thunderous 808s. Throughout the verses, Thai meditates on various topics, reflecting on the pain of loss, the importance of community and the rejection of materialism. Weaving through the song’s expansive production with his now staple quickfire flows, Thai Mason sounds as simultaneously determined, philosophical and heart-felt as ever.
Production is shared by Bearcubs and Hight (both of whom featured on Thai‘s debut project As Above, So Below) and provides the perfect environment for Thai‘s ruminations on self-determination and the inalienable value of being human.
“I think the core of the song is about self belief and recognising the thing inside all of us that can’t be diminished or taken away. It’s also a rejection of all the external things we’re sold with the promise that they’ll make us ‘more’ or ‘whole’. There’s pain in the song too, as it was written shortly after the biggest personal loss I’ve experienced. It’s almost like a moment of clarity that comes after great pain”

The song serves as a strong follow up from previous single ‘Coasting‘ that was released at the end of 2022 and can be streamed here.
