Dirty Diggers – The Pleasure Is All Mine LP [Zebra Traffic]
The Dirty Diggers have not been getting enough love around these parts. I have to confess I started a review of their first LP – Freakishly Strong, but they fell foul of my dwindling work ethic and multifarious demands on my time. Maybe I’ll finish it one day.
Southey The Great – Sick Sick South CD [Quill and Ink Music]
Black Orpheus DVD [Second Sight]
This is a 1959 retelling of the Greek Legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, set in Rio at the time of the carnival and directed by French director Marcel Camus.
Various Artists – Leeds By Example CD [Knocked Off Records]
The Leeds By Example project (see LeedsByExample.com) first dropped this CD around a year back to positive reviews, but the team behind it obviously feel that it hasn't yet reached every member of it's potential target audience as there's an official re-release under way.
Broke’N’English – Subject 2 Status LP [Fat City]
What do you think of when asked to consider the Manchester music scene? Well, if you're my age and were in your teens when Britpop hit, your first thought might well be Oasis. I won't deny for a second that Manchester might equally well be celebrated for its significant and progressive connections with rave culture - for example, the legacy of the Hacienda and more recently a stunning take on Liquid Funk D&B courtesy of Soul:R Records.
Lethal + Destruction – The Journey LP [Bleak House]
Lords Of The Underground – I Love Hip Hop 12″
The Lords Of The Underground are back. Well known for their early work Funky Child and Chief Rocka they are bouncing back with I Love Hip Hop which is a steamer of a track. A simple and somewhat un-groovesome beat is splattered with samples which all fit together well.
Lifesavas – Guttafly LP [Quannum Projects]
Straight outta Portland, Lifesavas have emerged with a new album entitled Gutterfly, a kick-ass ensemble of tracks that are both densely rich in production and stylistically beautiful. Gutterfly, the follow-up to the duo’s debut release Spirit in Stone, will hit stores April 24, 2007 on Quannum.
